1985 Ford Thunderbird, Turbo Coupe, 2.3L, 4 cylinder - $4,000

1985 Ford Thunderbird, Turbocharged, 2.3L, 4 cylinder, T5 5 speed manual transmission, low miles. Search on Google - - - “10 Most Collectible Fords from the 80’s” - - - this car is #1 on that list. This car is in demand.

Less than 65,000 miles, as verified by DMV. This car runs quite well and has immediately available extra turbo power - - just push accelerator extra hard to get that turbocharged boost. The looks can be improved on, which I have not cared about taking time on. The turbocharger is in very good condition and provides much additional acceleration. This is a muscle car, used in racing in 1985 to beat cars with much bigger engines.

Turbocharging this 4 cylinder car makes it a muscle car. But when you are usually not pressing the accelerator hard for big acceleration, this is rather just a 4 cylinder economy car, getting about 27 miles per gallon. So here is a way to save money on gas, and still have lots of emergency extra power when you need it to help get out of a pinch. This is a big enough car that in a crash, it will not be squashed as flat as some economy cars. The available extra power and larger size make this safer to drive than many economy cars. But maybe all you care about is to have a true-to-life classic race car that is fun to drive.

A 4 cylinder race car, who would have imagined? For that matter, have you ever before heard of a 4 cylinder Thunderbird? This is written in a style to show advantages for non muscle car buffs. (It is just a good car.) A muscle car buff may snap this car up for its values plus to keep this in the muscle car community.

You might call this a fixer-upper that runs great. If you do not require a totally pretty car, this car is fine as it is. If you want to go to town on this car, according to totally pretty standards, then you can get new paint, perhaps buy seats from an auto dismantler to get better upholstery, a few other unnecessary tweaks that will not affect how well this car runs. This car can use new tires. This car is really good transportation, and if you want to gradually improve its looks along the way, have at it. If you put an additional $1,500 into tweaking this car, it might become worth more than $3,000 more. I am not going to take the time to do all that.

If you search the nadaguides.com website and type in Ford, then 1985, then Thunderbird turbo 2-door coupe, then 4 cylinder engine - - that will tell you that this car in average condition retails at $3,273, and in high condition retails at $5,844. The paint and upholstery, etc. are below average, but the less than 65,000 miles and running so well are well above average. $4,000 firm, a good price for this hard-to-find Thunderbird turbo collector’s car, going extinct. Tel: (510) 835-1230, leave a message. I often do not check my emails for days.

Here are two other articles on this car. Look up on Google - - - “Lost Cars of the 1980s - Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe” - - - which includes some race track results. Also, in - - - “Hooniverse Obscure Muscle Car Parking Garage - The Ford Turbo Coupes (Mustang SVO, T-Bird Turbo and Merkur XR4Ti)” - - - you will see a photo of my black T-Bird on that page 4, where right under that photo it says - - - “The Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe was the top-of-the-line model, . . .” - - -

The same nadaguides.com website says $6,227 was the high price for a 1987 Ford T-Bird Turbo 2 Door Coupe, but look up - - - “Hemmings Find of the Day – 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe” - - - and that will show you this ’87 car offered for sale at $9,500 and no longer available. That $9,500 is over $3,000 more than nadaguide’s high price of $6,227. A lot of these cars have about 300,000 miles by now, if still running. Meaning that if you spruce up my also extra low miles T-Bird, it may similarly become worth more than nadaguide’s high price of $5,844. Someone will get a good deal here.
