The 7.0-liter 427 stroker GM LQ9 V8 was furnished by Thompson Motorsports with a custom-ground camshaft, cam bearings, chromoly pushrods, 12-point 8740 head studs, forged connecting rods, a forged crankshaft with a 4.125” stroke, and a windage tray. The short block also features King Racing main and rod bearings, ARP rod bolts, and Diamond pistons with a 4.065” bore, as well as dual PAC 1218 beehive valve springs with titanium retainers, Thompson Motorsports high-rpm lifter set, billet adjustable single roller timing set with IWIS C5R-style chain, GM rocker assembly cores, and a Melling Select oil pump. The GM 4L80E automatic transmission was rebuilt to match the new engine.
