1998 Ford Contour SE - 2.5 Liter V6 Engine, with Custom Stereo (other features are noted).
Less than 124,000 Miles, original owner. Full maintenance and repair record. Tires are in good condition, replaced late 2017 with less than 20,000 Miles on them.
Custom Stereo includes a Kenwood Head unit (single CD/Radio/USB Auxiliary input), Nakamichi front speakers (midrange and tweeter separates), rear two way Clarion speaker plate, JBL 10 inch subwoofer in custom woofer box, Audio Control EQL equalizer, Rockford Fosgate XV-1 electronic crossover, Alphasonik A-240B Amp bridged to drive the subwoofer in mono, Soundstream MC140 4-channel Amp driving the other speakers. Unfortunately, the CD player is not operating (will not read a CD).
The car has some mechanical issues and I will describe all of them I am aware of.
The main reason I am selling it is the Transmission has an intermittent issue. I do not know how serious it may be. The symptoms indicate to me that there may be a “sticky” or malfunctioning valve (or valves). At times, it will seem to shift between gears at inappropriate times (sometimes repeatedly) and also sometimes stay in a lower gear long after it should have up-shifted. My daughter has been the primary driver of the vehicle for the last 4 years and she claims the symptoms occur at times almost every time she drives it. I personally have never had it happen when I have test driven it but it did happen once briefly while I was riding with my daughter. My wife said it also occurred once when she was driving. Since I will be leaving the area soon and my daughter needed a reliable car after I leave, she decided to just get a new car. And since I do not need the car any longer, I decided I do not want to deal with having it repaired.
The Check Engine light is on which has been diagnosed by a local Shop as a Catalytic Converter needing replacement.
The Sunroof also needs repair as it will open but will not close on its own without some “help”. It sounds as if some gear teeth are broken or rounded off. It is currently closed and sealed and we do not operate it.
The cruise control cable that connects to the Throttle linkage is binding. It is currently disconnected and stowed so as not to interfere with the actual Throttle response. This would also need repair for the cruise control to operate.
The Trunk will only open with the Key. Neither the remote button on the Key FOB or the manual lever inside the car will open it. I believe the cable that connects the manual lever to the Trunk latch is either broken or “stretched” to the point it no longer releases the latch. I am not sure why the Key FOB doesn’t work but it is likely related to the cable.
The headliner above the passenger seat is also beginning to come loose.
There are no rust issues that I can find and the paint is original. It does have 22 years worth of nicks, dings and scratches. I think the engine still has a lot of life in it and the suspension and chassis are in good shape. Other than what I have mentioned above, all the accessories work.
