This very sporty upgraded Mustang, a 1988 two-tone Mustang GT 5.0 Convertible with a working powered roof is the pony you are looking for.
This is the model you’ll love if you want something more special and powerful than the base Mustang.  The front has a lower air-dam front valance, a grille-less nose clip and integrated round fog lamps. Air is ingested through a wide intake located between the fog lights, headlights are covered and there are small scoops added to the front of each wheel well opening in both the front and rear.
The heavily sculpted side skirts, with large forward facing non-functional scoops, are attached to the side of the car below body colored protective moldings, being the popular “Cheese-Grater” rear taillights that are a body-color-matched cover over the rear lights with rows of six slits, and the 10.9” front disc brakes insure braking control.
The 5.0L engine impresses with 225 horsepower, electronic engine control module (EEC), a very accurate mass airflow system, higher compression and better performing heads, increased the throttle body size for better breathing, original factory headers and a throaty exhaust system upgrade in 2001. It has excellent low-end torque with this set-up.
The motoring press was very impressed with the 1988 Mustang GT:  It was named one of Road & Track’s “Ten Best Cars in the World” and made Car and Driver’s “Ten Best” cars list. The following year, Motor Trend named the GT a “Top Ten Performance Car.”
The substantial improvements Ford made in 1987 stuck for 1988 and that was a good thing for Mustang competitive performance with the hard-charging 5.0-litre H.O. V-8 demonstrating up to 225-horsepower and 300 pound-feet respectively.
