I hate to get rid of this beauty, as it's been nothing but a pleasure to own and especially to drive. The steering tightness and sensitivity is adjustable, and it's wide wheel base allows it to hug the curves like you wouldn't believe! It's so much fun on a winding mountain road or just a cruise down the highway. And I did a little bit of both with it, driving only between the sunny months of May to about Oct most years. I'd say 80 percent of it's miles are highway, as I commuted 45miles one way to work five days a week. The other 20 percent was just pure goofing!
So why get rid of it? Truth is, I just don't drive it much any more and it's a car that needs to be driven! Sitting can cause so much damage and I hate to see that happen. I've taken good care of it, as I'm sure you can see in the photos. I'd like to see it go to someone that will continue to enjoy it as I have.
I bought one of the first models out when Pontiac released it in 2006, and I got it right off the show room floor in May of 2006. I've tended to it's timely oil changes--sorry no receipts as my hubby was a mechanic and did them all--took great care to make sure it was driven, just as the manufacture instructed me to when I bought it. Which was to vamp up that Turbo Trany to 3 or 4 before shifting, as this car likes to be driven, they said, or else it will slug in gears if you don't! And they were right! You can actually kill it in shifting if you don't drive it like it was meant to be driven--like a real sports car. It may not have the larger engine in it, but you won't mind that, it's fast off the line, and can get around most anything in a split second if you wish. It's remained covered and out of the weather every year I've owned it and the rag top shows very little wear.
I think I will stop writing now, or else I will talk myself out of this! Below you will find some of the positives of the car as well as some of the quirks that it does hold--remember it's 11 years old. I'm sure you'll see the charm as I did/do.
Vehicle Features: Air Condition, still strong! Drivers and Passengers air bags. ALL black leather and in great condition! Power steering and mirrors (see more below). No inside power locks as first year didn't have them. However, key fob will lock and unlock the car from inside or out (see more below). Theft Deterrent System, still works. OnStar works but is not turned on. Sirus XM available but not on and antenna is missing. I've replaced it twice, it always falls off! Not sure why. FM/Am radio, 6 CD works like new and speakers will rock your world. Chrome Wheels and low profile tires are in good shape (see more below). Black rag top is in good shape! Paint job is beautiful. Horn and all lights are in working order. Heater works great. Cruise control and all panel lights work.
Key's: Only one key fob is available. Because the vehicle has a immobilizer vehicle theft dept system, a transponder in the key head must matches the decoder in the steering column to start, so replacement keys must come from dealer and cannot be made by a locksmith. They run about 150.00, last I checked. Power entry locks and activation of theft deterrent system all comes from the key fob. The second key fob was lost two weeks after we bought the car and we just never replaced it.
*asking price has been lowered to accommodate the price of a new fob
Electric Mirrors: Driver's side mirror electronic adjustments work off and on. Something must be loose? I've never looked. Passenger's side works fine.
Tires and Wheels: Tires will need to be replaced, soon. I have found ordering online and having them shipped either to my house or to my mechanic to be the most affordable way to purchase these low profile tires. Because this car averaged 9K hwy miles or less a year, the tires I bought in 2012 have lasted. I paid 850.00 at the time. The chrome wheels are in good shape, with a few minor scratches and a nick--if memory serves--showing normal wear and tear for a 11 year old car.
*asking price was already lowered to accommodate the need of new tires.
Accidents: Car has only been in one rear bump incident which did not dent or crack the fiberglass but did scuff the paint, near the tail light area on left side. Insurance paid to have that area repainted about two years ago (+400.00 value). Car looks like it never happened.
Front nose: I once caught the nose on a parking barrier, which cracked the fiberglass near the grill. I could not allow this beautiful car to be driven around with such a blemish so I paid to have at the nose replaced and repainted two years ago. (+600.00 value) Car looks like new.
Catalytic Converter replaced 10/2017 by GMC: Apparently it's normal for these to go out at around 100,000 miles. Well it was almost right on the mark, going out just a few months ago. The cost--1,500! Be glad you didn't have to pay for it. It did hurt. (+1500 value)
They tell me, the next servicing requirement is at 100,000 and it's a transmission fluid and sparkplug replacement. Shouldn't be too bad.
