Cheap Used Trucks

Want a great truck but can’t afford to spend more than $10,000?  Here are some solid models to consider, according to Aol’s list of best used trucks for that price.

First is the 2004 Toyota Tacoma, a model whose popularity appealed to a great variety of folks.  Its owners ranging from beach bums and hippies to diehard truckers, the Tacoma surpassed expectations on reliability and has held its value extremely well over the years.   If you’re worried about the notorious inadequate rustproofing that this generation of Tacoma’s received, you can rest easy:  the manufacturer has offered a 15-year warranty on rustproofing to all Tacoma owners.  Also, those with the worst rust problems tend to be in the 1995-2000 range.

Second on the list is Ford’s 2004 F-150.  This is an extremely nice-looking truck, and offered many options so as to be very customizable for the new owner.  As a used-truck buyer, you may find an F-150 that’s not quite like any other.  However, all 2004 F-150’s have one thing in common that makes it wildly popular with all its buyers:  improved visibility.  This truck has specially-designed windows that angle forward and enhance the all-around view from the cab.   The bed, however, is relatively short, so this model is not great for someone in need of a lot of space for gear.  If you want lighter use and a V8 engine, though, this may be the truck for you.

Rounding out the top three is Chevrolet’s Silverado 1500, also from the year 2004.  Despite its American make, this truck was found to be very reliable by those who have owned it and lived to tell the tale.  It also features a fantastic engine, a 5.8 liter Vortec V8.  In addition, owners report a superiorly smooth ride and an eye-catching style.  The roomy cab has also won this model its admirers, among  those for whom extensive truck-bed length ranks low in importance.

Okay, so you do want something big for $10,000 or under?  You may want to check out the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500, known for its ability to “scare small children,” according to Aol.  This is one big truck:  long bed, V8 engine, automatic transmission with overdrive, and an independent front suspension system to bolster passengers.

Or what about something in between – not too big or too small?  Consider the Toyota Tundra 2004.  It has a 3.4 liter, V6 engine, and can go from 0-60 in under 10 seconds.  Not bad for a hefty truck.  Although not as big as other trucks in its class – such as the Dodge Ram or GMC Sierra - the Tundra features a superb suspension system, making responsiveness and handling a dream.  Unsurprisingly for a Toyota, the Tundra consistently receives high marks for reliability.

Despite what you may have thought, pickings are still rich for the $10,000 price point.  So don’t listen to the naysayers.  Get your awesome used truck and drive it proudly!
