Do You Really Need Snow Tires in Snow Country?

Here’s the Scoop!

Most of you living in snow country have already had your share of snow for the season. If you have any experience driving in snow then you have most likely answered this question already. All season tires do their job in most types of weather and circumstances. But if you live where there is a constant snow dumping then you need tires that can handle this white wet mess. Did you know that regular tires will harden when the temps drop below 40 degrees? When this happens your tires will lose their traction causing you to slip and slide and placing you in dangerous conditions. Snow tires are constructed of softer materials so they have a better grip in any temperature. Yes folks-if you spend a lot of time driving in snow country you do need good snow tires. Now one thing most of us know is that tires aren’t cheap. But here’s the thing…you cannot skimp on safety. Do not buy two tires and put them on the front of your car leaving regular tires on the back. If you do not have matching tires the over all control and acceleration of your car won’t be running up to par. Matching tires ensures better acceleration and better braking and control.

The only way you can have good traction control is to have a set of matching snow tires. If you drive an SUV with a four wheel drive you still need to have snow tires. As soon as your foot is off the gas pedal you might as well be driving a red sports car. Now as far as the prices of snow tires go, they aren’t as expensive as you think. Price should not be an issue here. One slip on black ice or some slushy snow and your life could be in danger. Above all your safety and the safety of your family should be your ultimate goal when driving in snow. All it takes is one slip and slide and your drive to the grocery store can turn fatal. So here’s the scoop on whether you need snow tires-yes you do and you shouldn’t waste another minute!
